Saturday 6th May 2017
Spring Sale of Rare and Minority Breeds

The rare breed sale proceeding on the 6th May has attracted strong entries featuring 200 sheep and some ewes with lambs at foot, 17 horses, 90 pigs, 15 goats, 230 lots of hatching eggs, poultry equipment and tack, in addition to 52 cattle including Belted Galloway, Dexter, Highland, Longhorn and Shorthorn breeds.  ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED.

Postponement of Poultry Section (until Saturday 20th May 2017)

The rare breed sale traditionally features a sale of poultry and waterfowl – however due to current Avian influenza restrictions, this section of the sale has been postponed until Saturday 20th May.

The Scottish Government ban on shows and gatherings of poultry, waterfowl and game birds will remain in force until the 15th May, when a new general licence will come into force.  This restriction also impacts on Caithness Livestock Centre's poultry section of its first rare and minority breed auction on Saturday 13th May.

 SALE ARRANGEMENTS

At Thainstone Centre we have a designated walkway which gives you a fantastic view of the livestock, this can be accessed from the first floor passageways beside Rings 1 and 3. For the safety of our visitors only livestock handlers will be allowed in the penned area during the sale. We would ask that the penned area be vacated by 9.45am unless authorised by a Mart employee. After this time, the animals in the pens can be viewed from the walkway.
The day will commence at 10am with the sale of horses in ring two followed by an auction of minority breed livestock, cattle, pigs and sheep.  Hatching eggs (230 lots) will be sold at 10.30am in Ring three and 300 lots of harness and tack will be sold at 11am in Ring one.   Implement and hand tools from a bygone era section (250 lots) will be sold in the concourse at 12pm, followed by poultry equipment.  Items from a Bygone Era will be accepted on Wednesday 3rd & Thursday 4th May from 8.30am to 4.30pm.
