Fairyknowe store lambs bound for Thainstone

An annual consignment of 170 store lambs from the Tait family, Fairyknowe, Bigton, Shetland, will be sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts' Thainstone Centre on Tuesday.

Kevin and Yvonne Tait, together with children Peter and Christina, farm 70 hectares and run 120 Texel cross ewes which lamb to the Texel at the end of April.

The family are longstanding members and customers of Aberdeen and Northern Marts, having sold store lambs at the same sale for 15 years on the trot.

"We always recieve a great service at Thainstone from Michael Sleigh and the rest of the staff, and we can always be rest assured that our store lambs are well looked after and drawn correctly," said Kevin, who also sells his cast ewes through Thainstone.

"Our lambs are shipped on the Sunday prior to being sold on the Tuesday, and they arrive at Thainstone on the Monday, where they go onto grass fields ensuring they are well rested and settled before going through the sale ring.

"The saving on the commission due to being a member of the company is always an added bonus too."
