Rare & Minority Breeds

Thainstone Centre holds two main rare breed events per year during May and September.
The event, which has been popular for over 20 years, is an ideal day out for all the family and attracts interest from all over Scotland with entries including:
  • minority breed livestock, cattle, pigs, goats and sheep
  • horses and ponies
  • cages of rare breed poultry – turkeys, large fowl, bantams, pheasants, quail, pigeons, guinea fowl, pea fowl, geese and ducks
  • hatching eggs
  • harness and tack
  • poultry equipment
  • implement and hand tools from a bygone era
 The popular event features a family element with a wide variety of stalls in the Centre’s concourse area with offerings of arts and crafts, gifts and accessories.
