A strong show of exhibition calves were witnessed today at the Royal Northern Spring Show held at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie, in conjunction with Aberdeen and Northern Marts. The event was kindly sponsored by JDW Agri, and the show was ably judged by Andy Ireland, Braeside, Darvel, Ayrshire.
The Overall Champion was awarded to a February 2025 born Limousin cross heifer scalling 483kgs from Craig and Jack Hendry, Heads of Auchendarren, Aultmore, Keith. The heifer also was presented with the best animal bred by exhibitor award.

The Reserve Champion was awarded to a May 2025 born Limousin heifer scalling 464kgs, from William Robertson & Son, Fodderletter, Tomintoul.
The Reserve Champion Heifer position was awarded to a Limousin cross heifer scalling 456kgs from Gordon Hendry, Heads of Auchendarren, Aultmore, Keith.
All the major prize winners were for show only and not offered for sale.
The Reserve Champion bullock was awarded to a February 2025 born Limousin cross British Blue, scalling 474kgs from Craig Robertson, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry which went onto sell for £2,800 to R McKinnell & Son
The top price of £4,400 was achieved by the 2nd prize heifer, a March 2025 born Limousin cross British Blue heifer also from Craig Robertson, Newton of Logierait. Scaling 466kgs, she went onto sell to D Blair and Son, Littleinch Farm, Balmerino, Newport on Tay.

A 615kgs Limousin heifer from Jack Stuart, Belnoe, Glenlivet sold for £3,800 to J M M McBeath, Folly, Caithness. The July 2024 born heifer was sired by Harestone Paratrooper.
The next top price of the day went to Craig Robertson, Newton of Logierait. This was for an April 2025 born British Blue cross heifer, scalling 375kgs which went onto sell for £3,100 to Cameron Sinclair, Brewthin, Cullerlie, Skene.
£3,000 was achieved four times over. Firstly for a Limousin cross heifer from Blair Duffton, 2 Bogie Street, Huntly scalling 462kgs, followed by a 686kgs Limousin cross bullock from A & E Cumming, Tillydesk, Ellon. Next up was the 1st prize British Blue cross heifer from Craig Robertson scalling 443kgs followed by Limousin cross heifer scalling 505kgs from Thomas Hall, 6 Bruce Brae, Longside, all selling to BT Kitson Butchers, 25 South Side, Hutton, Rudby, South Yorkshire.
Two bullocks sold to £2,980, the first for a 1st prize British Blue cross bullock from A & E Cumming, Tillydesk, Ellon, BT Kitson Butchers followed by a Limousin cross bullock from Scott Muir, Honeyneuk Farm, Maud which sold to J P Mason & Son, East Farm, Langton, Malton.
A March 2025 born Limousin cross heifer from Craig Robertson, Newton of Logierait achieved the next top price of £2,950 followed by a February 2025 born Limousin cross heifer from Thomas Hall, 6 Bruce Brae, Longside selling for £2,900, both to BT Kitson Butchers.
The 1st prize Limousin cross bullock scalling 493kgs from Craig Robertson, achieved £2,500 also selling to BT Kitson.
The sale saw 8 heifers sell to the average of £6.94 per kg against £7.36 per kg last year and 5 bullocks to the average £4.67 against £6.18 per kg last year, with an overall sale average of £5.93 per kg or £3,108.46 per head (+£20.96).
