A new centre record of £600 was achieved at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ Caithness Livestock Centre show and sale on Monday 17 August, as a strong trade saw 5,938 Ewe Lambs, Store and Prime Lambs, Feeding Ewes and Rams sold.
In the Show and Sale of Ewe Lambs, kindly sponsored by Harper Macleod, the champion single in the Half-Bred section judged by David Moir, Home Farm, Cairness was awarded to Fiona Anderson, Overton, Mid-Clyth which achieved the record price of £600 selling to W Barnetson & Sons, Lynegar, Watten.

Fiona Anderson enjoyed further success when her pen of 10 Half-Bred Ewe Lambs was awarded the Harry S Sleigh Perpetual Trophy for Champion Pen of Half-Bred Ewe Lambs, selling to £405 to J Elphinstone, Headitown, Bonnykelly.
First prize pen of 20 Half-Bred Ewe Lambs was awarded to M G & A Shearer, Lythmore, Bridge of Westfield which realised £225 to Ross Bros, Wardhead, Strichen.
Champion single in the North Country Cheviot section was awarded to J S Ballie & Co, Sebay, Tankerness and sold to £460 to A A Grant, Innergeille House, Kilrenny.
Champion pen of 10 of North Country Cheviot Ewe Lambs was from Mesr T Sinclair, Reaster which sold for £275 to Vicki Elder, East Whitestones, Cuminestown.
Champion single in the any other breed section was awarded to a Texel from A G Simpson, Cairnside and realised £400 to Wullie Gulloch, Broadlands, Wick.
Champion pen of 10 were Texel crosses from Messrs T Sinclair, Reaster, Lyth and sold for £220 to A M Connon, Skilmafilly, Auchnagatt.
Commenting on the sale, Auctioneer Scott Chapman said: “We were delighted to achieve a new centre record at Quoybrae, which reflects the quality of the Ewe Lambs forward and the strong demand from buyers.
“Ewe Lambs were very sought after throughout the sale, with Cheviot Ewe Lambs in particular demand. The best-bred Continental lambs were also very easily sold, with buyers eager to purchase, which resulted in a very positive trade throughout the sale.”
