A top price of £350 per head was paid for the Young Farmers Champion pair of lambs at the Aberdeen Christmas Classic, held at Aberdeen & Northern Marts’ Thainstone Centre on Tuesday 28th November.
The annual event, held in conjunction with Aberdeen Fatstock Association and supported by main sponsor Rapid Project Development (RPD), saw the top award go to William and David Moir from Cairness, Fraserburgh.
In total, 52 pairs of prime lambs averaged 329p per kg or £153.13 per head.
Judge Bill Cameron from Burnside of Edingight, Grange, Keith selected the pair of lambs scaling 44.5kg as the Young Farmers Champion and these went onto sell for £350 per head to J Gordon and Co, Waterside of Forbes, Alford
Reserve Young Farmers Champion was awarded to Laura Smith from Drumnahive, Kildrummy for a pair of Beltex Cross Lambs weighing 46.5kg, which sold to the price of £180 per head to John Munro, Dingwall.
Cairness Ltd, Home Farm, Cairness, Fraserburgh also received the prize for Champion pen of lambs with a pair of continental lambs weighing 44kg, which sold to the judge for £320 per head.
Taking the Reserve Champion for a pen of lambs was W & J Brown from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer with a pair of Texel cross lambs weighing 53.5kg, which sold to the price of £200 per head, also going home with the judge.
The Champion in the butchers’ lambs was awarded to Messrs Smith from Drumnaehive, Kildrummy for a pair of Beltex cross lambs weighing 42.5kg, which achieved the price of £200 per head selling to John Munro, Dingwall.
A pair of lambs weighing 43kgs from Cairness Ltd, Home Farm, Cairness, Fraserburgh received the Reserve Champion in the butchers’ lambs, which went on to sell for £180 per head to John Scott Meats, Paisley.
