A strong entry of 835 pedigree sheep has been secured ahead of this year’s annual Pedigree Ram Show and Sale at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie, on Tuesday 22nd September.

Hosted by Aberdeen & Northern Marts and kindly sponsored by Harbro Ltd, with support from Elanco, this year’s event has attracted a significant increase in entries compared with 2025, providing buyers with a wide selection of quality pedigree breeding stock from leading breeders across the North and North East of Scotland.

The entry comprises 271 Suffolks, 207 Texels, 21 Bluefaced Leicesters, 17 Border Leicesters, 52 Charollais, 68 Beltex, 29 Blue Texels, 65 Dutch Spotted rams and females, and 105 pure and cross Any Other Breeds.

A respected line-up of judges has been secured for the event. The Suffolk section will be judged by I Laird, Yeldabrek, Orkney, while S Sutherland, Sibmister, Thurso, will oversee the Texels. N Dow, Upper Sauchen, Ordhead, will take charge of the Bluefaced Leicester, Border Leicester and Charollais classes. T A Linklater, Stonlea, Orkney, will judge the Beltex and Blue Texel sections, while the Dutch Spotted section will be judged by E Hortin, Waverton House, Carlisle.

Colin Slessor, Deputy Head of Livestock at Aberdeen & Northern Marts, said: “We are delighted to see such a strong entry for this year’s Pedigree Ram Show and Sale at Thainstone, with numbers significantly up on 2025.

The sale will offer buyers a fantastic selection of high-quality rams across a wide range of breeds, with stock from many leading breeders across the North East. The strength and variety of the entry makes this an excellent opportunity for breeders looking to invest in quality rams ahead of the upcoming breeding season.

“We are very grateful to Harbro for their valued sponsorship and to Elanco for their continued support, and we look forward to welcoming breeders, buyers and visitors to Thainstone on 22nd September.”

Last year’s event saw the Texel championship awarded to M Seed & Son, Home Farm, Auchry, for a Shearling Ram, which went on to sell for a top price of 2,400gns to the judge, James Barnetson, Lynegar, Caithness.
