A strong entry of pedigree bulls and female was on show at the Royal Northern Spring Show held at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie.

The show held in conjunction with Aberdeen and Northern Marts, and sponsored by SBP Accountants & Business Advisors, the show was judged by Gordon MacKay, Upper Ardnagrask, Muir of Ord.

Averages: three Aberdeen-Angus, £4550 + £1260; sixteen Charolais, £6779.06 +£177.18; eleven Limousin, £5156.50 +£722.27; fourteen Simmental, £6673.50 +£1165.83; two Shorthorns £4462.50; one British Blue £4,200; five Limousin Females £2772 + £313.25; one Charolais Female £3675.

Pedigree bulls reached a top sale of 13,000gns for a Charolais bull, with a total of 47 bulls and 6 females from breeders across North East Scotland sold.

The Charolais breed produced the highest average of £6779.06 and topped the entire sale with the first bull in the ring at 13,000gns for a 25-month-old bull from Messrs N A Wattie, Mains of Tonley, Alford. This was Tonley Swagger, a January 2021 born son of Whitecliff Highlight.The bull sold too A A Blackhall, Little Tulloch, Durris, Banchory.

Second to the top price at 10,000gns was the Simmental champion Islavale Marshall from Mr W S Stronach, Berryleys Farm, Grange, Keith. Born in April 2021, he is sired by Corskie Highlander, selling to J & M McConnachie, Midtown of Buchromb, Dufftown, Keith.

Closely followed by the Simmental bull, Auchorachan Lethal from D & R Durno & Sons which achieved 9,000gns. Selling to J & S Middleton, Cowfords Farm, New Pitsligo, Fraserburgh, this 29-month-old is sired by Auchorachan Hercules.

R & N Barclay, Harestone Farm, Crathes, Banchory, received 8,500gns for the Charolais reserve champion Harestone Sexyboy which sold to Elsick Estate, Newhall, Newtonhill.

Two bulls tapped out at 7,200gns, the first being a Charolais, Bonnykelly Spectacular, from R Leggat, Mormond Prop, New Pitsligo, Fraserburgh which sold to A & H Sim & Son Rorandle, Monymusk, Inverurie.  The second was a 22-month-old Simmental Bull, Drumsleed Maverick from G & M Smith, Drumsleed, Fordoun, Laurencekirk. Selling to H Fraser, Glenernie, Dunphail, Forres.

M Massie, Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt, Ellon, sold Elrick Soloman for 7,000gns to K & J Mathieson, Milton Aberarder, Dores. The April 2021 born bull, was sired by Maerdy Ignition. Also selling to 7000gns was the Limousin champion Wedderburn Shelby, from J K Hunter, Wedderburn, Huntly. The 20-month-old bull, by Westpit Ollie sold to Ellis & Keir, Cairncoullie, GlenKindie, Alford.

Three bulls achieved 6,800gns, the first being Roebank Sandy from S & L Robertson, Roebank, Grange, Keith. The 23-month-old bull, by Balthayock Lancer sold to W & V Leith, North Crannoch Grange, Keith. Delfur Farms, Dundurcas Farm, Rothes, Aberlour, sold Delfur Magnum, a 23-month-old Simmental Bull to D & J Smith, Fallow Farm, Inverkeilor, Arbroath.  The third to achieve 6,800gns was Blackford Marquiss from Mr W G MacPherson, Blackford Farm, Croy, Inverness selling to Firm of Forbes, Little Kildrummie, Nairn.

A Limousin Bull from M Massie, Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt, Ellon, sold to 6,500gns. Selling to S & J Youngson, North Fornet, Skene. C & M Bruce, Tillyeve, sold two simmental bulls for 6,500gns to Ian Hall, Home Farm, Rothinorman and secondly to J Fisher & Son, Invercamey, Fyvie.

In the Aberdeen Angus section, a top price of 5,000gns was achieved from K & M Howie, Cairnton, Lumphanan, Banchory which sold to A & J Wilson, Upper Balfour, Forbes, Alford. Second to the top price was the Aberdeen Angus Champion from W Willox, Gordonston, Clatt, Huntly, achieving 4,500gns, selling to Messrs R Garden, Culfosie, Echt, Westhill.

Champion Shorthorn was Rattray Phoenix, from Rattray Estates LTD, Home Farm, Rattray, Peterhead which sold to 5,000gns to W S L Muir, Upper Onston, Stenness, Stromness.

A British Blue Bull from D J McKerrow, Uppermill Farm, Tarves, Ellon, achieved 4,000gns and sold to M Ingram, Cord Yard, Newmacher.

In the sale of Limousin females from J Penny & Son, Shannas, Clola, Peterhead, the top price was 3,600gns for Shannas Sartha, a March 2021 born heifer by Procters Noah, which sold to the J & A Galloway, Lochlyoch Farm, Thankerton, South Lanarkshire.  

A Charolais female from R & N Barclay, Harestone Farm, Crathes sold to 3,500gns to Scottywells Farm, Laurencekirk.
