Top quality entries set for Caithness Half-bred Ewe Lamb Show and Sale

The annual Half-bred Ewe Lamb Show and Sale returns to Aberdeen & Northern Marts Caithness Livestock Centre on Monday 17 August, supported by new sponsor Harper MacLeod LLP.
The popular fixture will feature around 700 Caithness Half-bred Ewe Lambs, alongside 300 Park North Country Cheviot Ewe Lambs, followed by 6,000 Store lambs from across Caithness and Sutherland.
This year’s catalogue includes consignments from well-established breeders including Aimster, Lythemore, Granton Mains, Tofts of Tain, Osclay, Glencroft, Hunster and 19 Mowat Place. These regular consignors averaged an impressive £256.55 for 624 lambs sold, with trade topping at £355 for a pen of 10 from Fiona Anderson, Osclay, purchased by J Elphinstone, Headiton, Bonnykelly at last year’s sale.
Demand for Caithness Half-bred Ewe Lambs continues to grow, with last year’s purchasers travelling from as far north as Orkney and as far south as Melton Mowbray, alongside strong support from new and returning customers across Aberdeenshire. Renowned for their versatility, excellent mothering ability and strong milk production, the distinctive Half-bred ewe remains a popular choice for commercial sheep producers.
Auctioneer Scott Chapman said: “We’re looking forward to another strong sale, with an excellent line-up of quality ewe lambs. The Caithness Half-bred ewe lambs continues to attract buyers from across Scotland and beyond, and we expect plenty of interest once again this year.”
The day’s programme will begin with the annual Show of Half-bred and Park North Country Cheviot Ewe Lambs, kindly sponsored Harper MacLeod LLP. Classes include Singles, Pens of 10 and Pens of 20 for Half-bred Ewe Lambs, together with Single and Pen of 10 classes for Park North Country Cheviot and Any Other Breed entries.
Judging will commence at 9.15am, followed by the sale from 10am. Online bidding will be available.
